Exhibit Specialist - Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum

|Description:||Our client, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, offers more than 250 interactive science, technology, energy and health exhibits for students of all ages.|
Under the general direction of the Exhibits Director, and working with staff and volunteers, the exhibits specialist constructs, maintains and redesigns Museum exhibits.
|Duties:||-Maintains exhibits on the gallery floors to ensure that they are generally functional and presentable, based on personal observation as well as staff and visitor comments.|
-In collaboration with the Facilities Manager, turns on exhibits in the morning, assessing status of each and making appropriate adjustments and repairs.
-Assists in the design and fabrication of new exhibits and in the redesign and reconstruction of older exhibits.
-Keeps records of fabrication process and maintenance.
-Researches exhibit topics, designs, materials and methods of construction.
-Maintains an orderly and safe workshop.
-Delegates exhibit-related responsibilities to volunteers and work-study employees.
-Orders supplies and materials, ensuring adequate stocks on hand.
-Assists in receiving and shipping individual exhibits and traveling exhibitions.
-Actively participates in the “on duty” rotation as assigned.
|Qualifications:||-Broad knowledge of Museum operations.|
-Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds.
-Must be able to climb a ladder.
-Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to handle many projects simultaneously.
-Bachelor’s degree in science, art, museum studies or a related field, or equivalent experience in a related trade.
-Minimum of three years experience in exhibit design and fabrication or related fields, including industrial design and materials (wood, metal, plastics) handling, plus a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
-Ability to work collegially in a small group situation.
-Experience with Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator preferred.
